If you are just having a day at the races that is fine a bit of emotion adds to the day. Quite honestly if you did not feel something the whole process would be pretty boring and would add little to your day out.
Are you betting on the horses for a bit of excitement and fun or to make some money? How you should approach your betting is dependant upon your answer to that question. Providing you are out for a bit of light hearted fun be as emotional as you like. Select a horse because it has a pretty face or has the same name as your pet goldfish. It does not matter, as long as you do not bet more than you can comfortably afford to lose it can only add to a great day out. Who knows you could even go home with some winnings.
However, if you bet on horses to make money there is no room for emotion or sentiment. There are certain race horses that capture the public's imagination and jockeys who are household names and attract a large following. This can often lead to a horse being a false price because these sentiments. Certainly you may think it would be great fro that horsed or jockey to win but almost certainly backing the m would not represent value for money.
Horse racing involves some wonderful animals and marvellous people but whenever you place a bet as a serious gambler who is trying to win money you have to forget that. If you had a big win on a horse the last time it ran that is no reason to think it will win again. If there are genuine reasons why you think it is good enough to repeat the feat great but most horses do not win two races on the trot.
So if you want to make money on horse racing in the long term you are going to have to learn how to develop a detached approach. If you are a student of form or a follower of statistics you need to stay focuses and unemotional.
