Such a one of these has been Mark Layton's "1000 Point a Year System. ".

Mark was the
creator of The Gamekeeper Turned Poacher System that was released a few months
ago. Mark's history in racing is along one, starting off at the age of 8
helping his father, a bookies runner and going on to an odds compiler and
systems analyst for offshore bookmakers such as Ladbrooks. So in simple terms
the guy knows what he is talking about.

The 1000
Points a Year is a backing system which is based on trainers and jockeys past performances
at various courses. This seems to be a sensible and logical approach to find
winners and if past results are to be judged a profitable one.

Based on past
results, which is not always a reliable guide to future profitability this
system has shown a £10,000 a year profit to £10 stakes over the last 3 years.

The past 3 years
results are as follows:

2007 1277.67 points

2008 1224.41 points

2009 1277.67 points

Which would
make a total profit over £357,000 to a £100 stake and around 100 points per
month.

These are
the kind of figures that you cannot ignore and as the system is being marketed
by Sportsworld Publishers I have no reason to doubt their accuracy.

This year to
date there have been 25 selections, the low number being mainly due to the poor
weather and cancelled meetings. There have been 8 winners which has produced a
profit of 24.54 points, not the greatest but given the conditions and how
difficult January was for all punters quite acceptable.

Until the
weather settles down it is difficult to do a meaningful paper test on any horse
racing system but I shall be keeping a close eye on the 1000 Points a Year
System.

At present I
cannot give it an unconditional stamp of approval because it has not yet been
possible to test it fully. But if the results live up to the claims then it
could well be worth adding to any horse race punters portfolio of systems.

Phil Bull

Phil Bull made a massive amount of money from betting, but not only
was he a successful gambler he was also a breeder, owner, writer and
publisher. It is estimated he made millions during his career.

In 1948 he launched the now internationally renowned organisation Timeform.
Phil had a shrewd attitude towards betting. He looked at the season as a whole and his form study was the same for every race.

JP McManus

Multi millionaire JP McManus is a renowned gambler and race horse owner.

Originally from Limerick in Ireland, McManus started betting as a
schoolboy before working in his family's plant hire business. He had
his own betting stand for a while at Limerick's greyhound track and it
wasn't long before he moved into owning horses as well as betting and
laying. These days JP owns the largest number of National Hunt's horses.

His first 'big' win (rumoured to be around £250,000) was at
Cheltenham with a horse called Mister Donovan who was 2nd favourite but
ended up winning the race. He also won over £1 million from famous
Scottish bookie Freddie Williams in 2006 at Cheltenham.

Although McManus is a high level gambler a large part of his wealth
is said to have come from international financing and money dealing
which he overseas from his base in Geneva.

Unfortunately in 2008 McManus was diagnosed with cancer although he is now said to be doing well.

Alex Bird

The late Alex Bird made a considerable amount of money from betting
after the war. It is estimated he had an annual turnover of £2
million from gambling.

His interest in gambling began when he was a child. He learned a
lot from his father who was a bookmaker. However, he decided there was
more money to be made from the other side and he become one of
Britain's most well known professional punters of all time.

Bird had several methods for getting one over on the bookies but his
most famous was probably his success on betting on photo finishes which
in those days took about 5 minutes to develop. This process earned him
a fortune over a period of around 20 years and only stopped when the
modernisation of technology meant there was no longer the delay in
photo developing.

Alex Bird made his own mind up when it come to betting and rarely
listened to anyone - he stuck to his rules and systems. Even now,
almost 20 years after his death, there are current systems available
that are based on the practices he used.

His biggest bet was on the well known horse Mill Reef at Gimcrack.
The season after this Mill Reef won the Derby, again backed by Bird who
had by then backed 7 Derby winners in 8 years.

One of his last bets was on a horse called Final Shot in 1990 when it won the Ayr Gold Cup.

Patrick Veitch

Patrick Veitch is one of Britain's most successful gamblers who has won over £10 million from betting.

At just 15 years of age this mathematical genius got a place at
Cambridge although he never completed his degree, instead he turned to
gambling and started his own tipping line.
By his mid 20s Patrick Veitch was already making a lot of money but
then came a turning point in his life. He become the target of a
criminal and was forced to live in hiding for many months putting his
career on hold and leaving him broke. However, following this episode
he become more successful than ever and was soon making £1 million a
year from his strategic betting methods.

Veitch is a strong believer that there is no short cut when it comes
to betting - the only way to win is by working hard at it to get it
right.

It is very rare to see Patrick at the races. He uses agents to
place his bets and spends most of his time watching and analysing
events from his computer.

Enemy Number One by Patrick Veitch (Autobiography)

Harry Findlay

Harry Findlay is a larger than life gambler who has not only made a
fortune but also lost a fortune from gambling over the years.

He has always had a love for greyhounds and worked with them for a
while after leaving school. Then aged just 20 Findlay spent 11 months
in prison convicted of credit card fraud.

These days bets from his home office which is fully equipped with a
number of TV screens and monitors often with different sporting events
on at the same time.

As well as being a professional gambler Harry is also an owner. He
jointly owns the 2008 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner, Denman who has more
recently won his 2nd Hennessy Gold Cup. Big Fella Thanks is another of
his co-owned horses who he named after his beloved greyhound 1999
Coursing Derby winning Big Fella.

Barney Curley
Barney Curley is a professional gambler and trainer from Northern
Ireland who has a reputation for being one of racing's most colourful
characters.

During his childhood he watched his Father run up huge gambling debts but still took up betting himself.

In 1975 he famously organised one of the biggest betting scams of
all time - Yellow Sam which made him over £300,000. He has also
appeared in court for illegal lottery after raffling his mansion for
£1.5 million.

Terry Ramsden

Terry Ramsden originally made his fortune from investment company
Glen International in the 80s. He was worth millions and, amongst
other things, owned a string of race horses.

He was also well known for his betting and in 1985 won £2 million on
one horse. The following year he had another big win on Motivator in
the 1986 Coral Golden Hurdle Final.

Towards the end of the 80s however, Ramsden's company collapsed and
he started losing massive amounts on bets - he reportedly lost £1
million on one bet alone. This lead to him going bust at which time he
fled to America. He had won but also lost millions of pounds.

In the late 1990s he was jailed for concealing assets during his
bankruptcy - one of which was rumoured to be a £70,000 plus win on the
horses.

Despite returning to public life a few years later Ramsden has
failed to recreate his earlier success and has since been involved in a
number of arguments over money.
Dave Nevison

Dave Nevison became a professional gambler in 1993 after he lost his job working as a currency trader in the City.

He now has an estimated six figure income made up largely from
gambling but also from journalism columns he writes. Dave has also
written 2 books and has his own horse racing tipping service.

Alan Potts

At the age of just 14 Alan Potts started betting on horse racing and
become a full time professional gambler after being made redundant from
his office job in 1991.

He has admitted it took him many years to become a regular winner
and despite making an estimated £50,000 a year from betting in the
past, he has also suffered losing runs. Although he is also an owner,
author and pundit Potts' main source of income is from gambling.

In 1999 he jointly formed The Golden Anorak Partnership and this is the banner under which his horses now run.

Alan has written 2 books and also writes articles for the betting exchange - WBX.

Clive Holt

Legendary punter Clive Holt was first shown that money could be made
from betting by his father who kept a couple of greyhounds during the
1960s.

In the early part of 1975 Clive decided he was ready to quit his job
working for the Electricity Board and take up gambling on a full time
basis.

He started out using a fairly random approach dictated by his
finances and he kept no proper records of bets he had placed. He soon
made the decision to start recording his bets and this was the first of
two business methods he implemented in order to make a better profit.
The second was to setup a betting bank.

His first bet was £67 to £30 on Western Jewel who won comfortably
and within 6 weeks he had made more money than he was earning in a year
working in electricity. Over the years, although rarely winning more
than £1,000 at a time, Holt's profits from betting provided a lifestyle
of luxury cars, exotic holidays and a listed country house with acres
of land.

A number of books have been written by Clive Holt who was also the man behind Fineform.

Free Horse Racing Systems and Tips - Are They Worth the Price?
By D J Bromley

You have probably seen adverts on the Internet or received emails offering free horse racing systems. This really does seem like a win win opportunity for the punter. Instead of having to pay out a pile of money someone is prepared to give you their system or tips for gratis, zilch or in other words nothing.

Does it sound almost too good to be true? Then it almost certainly is. So you have to ask yourself why the person is doing this. One of the biggest comments that you will read on racing and betting forums is "if a system is so good, and makes so much money why sell it on to other people? When you are giving the information away the information for nothing it becomes an even bigger question.

Each and every one of us has a very valuable property that all online marketers would like to get hold of. That is your email address which by requesting a free product will be giving the marketer both access to the address and the right to send you further emails.

You can be certain that once you have requested your free item you will receive many further emails offering you paid systems and tipping services. To be honest there is nothing wrong or unethical about this marketing method. Incentives and free gifts have been the back bone of marketing for many years.

What you have to question is the quality of the free system or tips that you receive. Recently I have seen comments from a couple of sources that claim that around 90% of racing systems currently on the market are a complete waste of money. So if that is true what chance do you stand with the free stuff?

Some of the free reports and systems are little more than up rated sales letters aimed at getting you to buy products. However, surprisingly some of the free material that is offered is at least as good as some that is offered for sale. The secret, whether it is free or paid for, is to evaluate and test the system or tips before putting any money on the selections. Even if the system is not perfect it may well give you ideas of how to improve and profit from it.

The key to using any racing system whether paid for or free is to remain skeptical until you have proved it to your own satisfaction. Do not believe any of the claims or forecasts and after "paper testing" if you are satisfied start off with small stakes at first.

You will continue to see offers of free reports and systems because in marketing terms they do work. My own company offer a no cost 29 page report everyone who requests it will also receive emails about our web site.

The quality of the free material sent out by various marketers could give you an idea of how good their paid for products will be. If they send out rubbish for free you can bet that whatever they are selling will be the same quality.

The final tip is that there is nothing to stop you from unsubscribing to marketers emails if they become a pain.

Simply the Best is the latest offering from Sports World Publishing. This system devised by Bernard Hibbett and concentrates on National Hunt Races run between November and April.

The Simply the Best system does live up to its name in fact that it really is simple. In fact it made even more so by the fact that when you purchase the system you will be entitled to receive either access to Bernard's telephone service or access to his secure Internet website. There you will see posted the daily selections from the Simply the Best system so you do not even have to work them out yourself. However, whether you really need this service I am not sure as it is very easy and quick to pick out the daily selections.

The true test of how good a system is the past results that have been achieved. Although past results are no guarantee of success they can be a good guide. Over the last two National Hunt seasons the system has produced 199 winners from 532 selections which represent a 37.5% success rate. .

Over those 2 seasons Simply the Best has shown a profit of 753 points to level stakes.
This represents profit of £3,760 per season based on a level stake of £10 using bookies SP.

Anything that comes from Bernard Hibbett is well worth taking a look at and I shall be adding this system to my portfolio. I shall start using it with the Ascot Meeting that begins on 31st October and will look forward to a successful 2009/10 NH season.

Simply the Best is recommended. After exhaustive paper testing I recently added the Premier Betting Club system to my portfolio. During tests I had been most impressed with Rick Fords system. To be honest although I have some ideas I am not exactly sure how Rick's system works because he simply sends out the selections each morning at around 9 am.

He has been running his successful Lay system since March and it has consistently finished amongst the top rated on the independent Racing Index site. Last month he introduced his backing system as a free addition to his service. The idea behind this system is to identify big priced winners.

I have to admit that the Lay system has not had its most successful month partly due to one disastrous Saturday afternoon when the system dropped 20 points! However, as you would expect from any reliable system it managed to recover and after yesterday finished the month with an overall 11 points profit. Not the best of months for the PBC Lay system but a lot better than many achieved during September.

I have not been using his backing system because I have not had a chance to carry out a full paper test. Possibly more fool me you might think as in the first month it has shown a very respectable 45.44 points profit. At £10 level stakes that represents over £450 profit on the month or well over £2000 for £50 level stakes. During the month the system dropped to a low of -17.20 and reached a high of +60.5.

To get Ricks selections you have to join the Premier Betting Club membership site which has a special Charter Membership deal at present or the first 200 members of just £14.95 per month. (a saving of £10 a month on the normal price.)

One of the reasons I have been looking closely at the Premier Betting Club is because Rick has asked me to join him and help with the club. He has some great plans and intends to add some amazing extra features to the club including offering up to 50% savings on some of the leading horse race systems, reviews, exclusive articles and videos plus a member's only private monthly newsletter.

Rick is a talented and enthusiastic young man who knows his racing who is going to achieve a great deal in the future. I know that the Premier Betting Club is going to grow and become a huge success so I believe now is the time to join while the locked in monthly subscription of £14.95 is available.

To grab this great offer now while it is still available go to

http://www.premierbettingclub.com

I know that the PBC web site is currently under going a full makeover with new designs, features and content. This will be launched on 2nd November but my advice is to sign up now whilst there are still some Charter Membership places up for grabs.

http://www.premierbettingclub.com

One phrase that keeps popping up in horse racing circles these days is "Risk free betting." It is a wonderful idea in theory but is it possible in practice? It is if you believe some of the hype, but what exactly is it all about?

Other terms that you may come across are "arbitrage" and "trading". The dictionary describes arbitrage, which is a stock market term as, traffic in bills of exchange or stocks to take advantage of rates of exchange in different markets". In betting terms arbitrage, or trading, means backing a horse at a higher odds and laying it for a larger amount at lower odds. This guarantees that what ever the result you will make a profit on the bet.

It is quite important that you understand the difference between risk free betting and arbitrage. Not unsurprisingly with arbitrage you are not interested in a horses form or even its chances of winning or losing. The trader is purely interested in value and price. They are looking to back a horse at one price and then lay it at another to ensure whatever the outcome they will make a profit. To achieve this they balance th odds with the amount they invest. This allows them to make small but regular profits.

In risk free betting you are looking not so much for a guaranteed profit but to ensure that you will not lose any money. That way when you win you profit and if the horse fails you do not actually lose anything.
To achieve this you will normally be looking for a first or second favourite that you think will win.. Having found the horse you should be looking to see if the price of your selection is liable to come down. If both these factors are present you could have a risk free betting opportunity.

If you have ever visited the Betfair betting exchange online you will know how volatile the prices can be, especially just before the off. If you study the site you will realise that it is the weight of money being wagered that controls the rise and fall in the odds of the respective runners.

In an over simplification, if there is more money waiting to back a horse than there is to lay it then the odds are more than likely to fall. If the reverse is true and more cash is waiting to be laid than backed the price will rise. By studying the markets it is possible to anticipate these moves and this is basically the premise on which "risk free betting works".

For example, you think the favourite will win a race. It is priced at 3.0 (2/1) so you back it to win at £100. If it wins you will get £200 if it loses you lose £100. The horse price then drops to 2.5 (6/4) and at this stage you lay it £100 top lose. Now if it wins you will get £200 less £150 you lose on the lay bet (£100 at 2.5 = £150) and you make £50 profit. If the horse loses you lose your £100 win bet but make £100 on the lay so break even..

Betting in this way will make you small but steady profits once you become proficient at reading and predicting the betting market. However, there will be occasions when you do get it wrong. The price of your horse goes in the opposite direction to the one you anticipated. It is then going to be a judgement call as to whether you cut your loses or ride with the original bet in the hope that it comes off.

There is no such thing as a totally risk free betting, The word betting implies an element of risk but as many smart players have proved if you are prepared to study Betfair market you can get very close to risk free betting.

A few months ago I met up with a very interesting young man called Rick Ford. He is a really interesting guy who spends much of his time working on horse racing systems and "no risk" betting strategies.

Last March he launched a new horse race betting membership site at http://www.premierbettingclub.com. The two main features of the site was his successful Premier Lay Betting system. He publishes the system selections each day on the membership site. The other popular feature is the membership forum.

I was very impressed with Rick's knowledge and enthusiasm and was delighted when he asked me if I would join him at Premier Betting Club. I shall be writing articles and reviewing new horse racing systems on the Premier Betting Club.
Currently we are working on a new design for the web site and having additional features incorporated. The new design will be launched on 2nd November. In the mean time you can receive a Free copy of "How to be a Profitable Punter" my new 29 page report. I am very wary of over hyped claims for horse racing systems and when I read the sales letter for the new Tyche Windfall system I was to say the least a little sceptical. However as the system comes from the developer of the highly successful "Winner to Loser" system I thought it was worth a second look.

It is a backing system which you can start with just a £50 bank and the selection process is simple and quick. In fact if you join before November you will get the selections e-mailed out to you. David, the developer claims that the system has not had a losing year this decade.

He also provides an impressive list of past results and Dave offers a £1000 reward if his results are found to be false. I think his money is safe as they have been independently checked and verified and found to be 100% correct.

Looking at the past results it appears that the system has a success rate in the region of 30% + which is good in anyone's language. To find out more visit

http://tinyurl.com/y98qceq

Because I have not fully tested it myself I cannot yet give Tyche Windfall my own 100% seal of approval. However, I know some of my subscribers like to get in early when a new system is launched by a proven developer. The other reason for telling you about it now is that only limited copies will be sold so if you want to add this to your portfolio of winning systems and services you need to go to

http://tinyurl.com/y98qceq

Now.
<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>

August Update

I think it is fair to say that for most systems August has been a difficult month. One of my favourites had a real nose dive and ended up very much in the red. However, you cannot judge any system on one months results alone and you have to take the long term view and even after a poor August that system is showing a annual profit.

This month my portfolio of systems consisted of Prize Lay, Dodgy Favourites and a newcomer to the fold Premier Betting Club. In addition I paper tested Easy Lay (thanks to the Betting School) Safe Lay and Betfair Bandit. I have also at the end of the month enrolled into Puntology the year long course on punting.

Good old Eddie McClugg's Prize Lay held up well this month with an 83.46% success rate. This represented a £883 profit over the month to a £100 level stake. At one point during the month the profit was running at well over £2000 but a poor third week saw a big drop. However, overall it has been a good month.

Paul Fowlie took a long weekend break during the month but I suspect he now rather wishes he had gone away for the whole month. A high percentage of Paul's lay selections actually won this month and this has put a big dent into his annual profit figures. Fortunately Paul horses tend to be favourites or second favourites so the liabilities have not been too high.

The new kid on the block as far as a system is concerned is Premier Betting Club. The system passed my paper tests and I have started using real money on it. The selections are e-mailed every day and arrive between 9 and 10 am most days. The young man responsible for the system Rick Ford runs Premier Betting Club as a member's site and each member automatically receives the selections. AS there is a special "Charter Member" locked in offer of membership for £14.97 per month this seems good value.

Hi success rate for August was very similar to Eddies Prize Lay at 83% which gave a monthly profit of just over £300 which was due in part to several higher priced losing lays

I have been testing Betfair Bandit and Easy Lay. I began my test on the 11th of August and to date there have been 34 lay selections of which 30 have proved successful. The losing bets were priced at 3/1, 4/1, 7/1 and 11/4 which had I been laying for real would have shown a profit of around 12 points.

The Betting School have been publishing the Easy Lay selections for the last month. This is a lay system that has been independently proofed or the last 3 years and shown consistent profits. However during the test period there were 132 selections with 91 successes and 41 unsuccessful which is an overall success rate for the month of around 69% which would have shown a loss on the month.

Finally I just want to mention Puntology a course for punters. When I first read about it I was a little sceptical. How can you teach someone to be a punter? Th ecoyrse has been developed by Michael Wilding My sceptic ism disappeared as soon as I read the first lesson. Entitled "How to Get Started Making Money From Value Races in 90 Minutes or Less" the first lesson is well presented And full of good advise. I am looking forward to Lesson 2.

Hopefully we shall do even better in September a month in w2hich I usually do fairly well.

Good punting.

If you believe the advertisements for some of the thousands of horse racing systems on the market today they are the road to untold riches. Their respective creators and marketers show records of supposed past successes as proof that their system really is the path to easy money.

By the very nature of the business in most cases you get very little idea of what you are buying before you part with your money. Another fact is that very few sellers offer any kind of guarantee or refund. There argument would be that if they did this there would be nothing to stop you getting the system, asking for a refund but continuing to use it anyway. Basically what they are saying is we want you to trust us, but we don't trust you.

Having purchased your system you need to test it for yourself. Once it arrives you need to read through it very carefully several times. Make sure that you totally understand all the rules and filters that apply to the system.

It this stage you may well discover that the system is not a practical option for you. There could be several reasons for this such as the system requires you to bet just before the start of races. If you have a full time job this may not be practical. Another reason that makes the system unsuitable might be the amount of money you are required to bet on the selections. Always remember never to bet money you cannot afford to lose.

If the system looks promising the next stage should be to "paper test" the system. The big temptation when you get a horse racing system that looks really good is to rush in and start using it straight away. This is a big mistake, by paper testing for a month or so you will not only discover any problems but see how effective the system really is.

Do not be tempter to cut the "paper test" Just carry on finding the selections and noting them down until the o nth is up. Then you can calculate how much you would have won or lost had you been betting money on the selected horses. A good horse race system is long term investments which will hopefully work for you for years to come. It is worth waiting the month or so to prove to yourself if it is the real thing or not.

One word of warning, the way many horse racing systems are made to appear profitable is that their devisers recommend some form of stop at a winner betting plans. This in simple terms means that you double your stake each time you have a losing bet and continue to do this until you get a winner. This is the surest way to lose your betting bank. If a system will not work using level stake bets then it is not worth wasting your time and money on.

Horse race betting has become a huge business with millions being wagered everyday. Most people view their flutters as just a little bit of fun while a minority consider themselves professionals and use betting either to make or supplement their income.

It is a common misconception that you can only make money from horse racing if you have some inside knowledge. This supposedly involves having contacts with owners, trainers of their staff. If this was true surely all the stable staff would be driving around in big cars and the bookies would be travelling by public transport.

To be successful betting on horse races requires a degree of knowledge, dedication and understanding. For instance one of the most misunderstood factors is the allocation of weight carried by a horse in a handicap race. The basic idea is that a handicapper looks at each horses past performances and gives it a weight to carry in races.

The weight is made up by a combination of the jockeys weight and equipment and lead weights in the saddle cloth. That weight is supposed to give it an even chance of finishing level with the other horses in a race. Of course the idea of all the horses finishing in a line is almost impossible but the closer the horses finish together the better the handicapper has done his job.

In this system horses will go up and down in the weights as their performances improve or worsen. As a serious punter you need to know the effect of these weight changes. This will also help you to understand why so many of the "handicap good things" get beaten.

Occasionally a horse will drop down in weight so much compared to its rivals that some experts declare it a handicap certainty that cannot be beaten. Unfortunately many of these good things come trailing in well behind the eventual winner. The truth of the matter is that you can slow down a fast horse by giving it extra weight but you cannot speed up a slow horse by taking off weight.

In good, good to firm or good to soft going carrying extra weight will have little effect on a good horse. It is still likely to beat a slow horse that has been lowered in the weights. Where weight can make a difference is when the going is soft or heavy.

In these conditions the faster horse carrying high weights will be slowed down. This allows the lighter weighted horse who can get through the ground easier because of its light weight to keep up. Carrying a big weight through heavy ground can drain a horse's energy as it becomes tired and in these circumstances the lighter, normally slower horse can go on to win. This happens often in long distance races.

So when making your selection for any race you should consider both the horse's weight and the going.

When I was told about The Bookie Demolisher System I was very sceptical about it. Horse Racing systems are launched in increasing numbers with their promoters making more and more outlandish claims regarding their potential profitability.

My finger was already hovering over the delete button when I noticed who had developed the system and who was promoting it. The guy behind the Perfect Punter's
Tipping Service has spent 2 years developing and testing this new system. If that was not enough to make me take a second look the fact that Sports World Publishing are promoting the system made me believe it was worth a second look.

In the two years of testing this system which is based on selecting race winners it has not had a losing period. In fact it has found over 100 winners priced at 9/1 or bigger and in the first two years is showing an amazing 1306 points profit.

It would not be right to give away the secrets of The Bookie Demolisher but it is fair to say that you only back horses to win and you are not required to carry out any form study. The selections can be made from any newspaper and the selections can be made at any time from the night before racing right up to the off. This makes it an ideal system for those who cannot follow racing live.

Unlike many systems around today you can use it to bet at your local bookmakers, your credit account or on Betfair. In fact if you backed the selections on Betfair at SP you would have shown an even bigger points profit.

One helpful feature for buyers of the system is that The Perfect Punter will give you the selections for your first month. This allows you to check that you totally understand the system and can apply the rules correctly for yourself. Also currently purchasers of The Bookie Demolisher System will also receive a trial subscription to the Perfect Punters Tipping service which is valued at £50.

I have not yet "paper tested" The Bookie Demolisher System but based on the past results supplied by Sports World Publishing it looks as though it is worth trying. Before you did buy the program I would suggest that you study the detailed past 2 years results so that you will know what to expect. It is worth noting that the results for 2009 are significantly better than those for 2008.

June was not a bad month at all from a horse racing perspective. There were some fine performances on the race course and my portfolio of systems also came up with positive results. My portfolio consists of 3 systems:

Dodgy Favourites

Prize Lays

and Racing Profits System (RPS)

Overall the 3 systems generated a profit of +44.9 for the month and this was made up as follows:
Dodgy Favs. 52 Bets 41 winning bets 11 losing bets 3 No bets profit 14.6 pts

Prize Lay 135 Bets 118 winning Bets 17 losing bets 40 not bets profit 11.84 pts

RPS 35 Bets 28 winning bets 7 losing bets profit 18.12 pts

A no bet was any when the horses price was over 7/1 or 8.0 on the exchange. (they are included in the win/loss figures but not in the points calculation).

On the paper tests last month I looked at Punters Profits and Portfolio. Punters Profits offers a mixture of win bet and lay tips. The performance of the system was good for June showing 13.7 pts profit. I shall continue to monitor this system. I was able to test Portfolio thanks to the Betting School who are providing members with a month of selections from some of the newer systems.

In May they featured the selections for Prize Lay, in June Portfolio and this month they are featuring the selections of The Edge System. This is another very good reason for joining the Betting School. Back to the Portfolio System which is a winners selection system. In the month it came up with 44 selections and gave 8 winners a strike rate of just over 18% which would not normally be that impressive until you consider the prices of the winners which were:
20/1 -14/1 - 8/1-7/1 -7/1 - 4/1 - 7/2 - 7/2 which by my maths at level stakes would have given a profit of over 20 points. Well worth taking a look at.

If you have tried to get to the Prize Lay sales page recently you will have found that it is not working. The reason for this is because the system developer Eddie McClugg and SportsWorld Publishing have had a bit of a falling out. As a result Eddie is now supplying the selections from the system by e-mail for £75 for 3 months. Having spoken to Eddie he has agreed to give Horse Racing Systems Online subscribers a special 10% discount, which brings the price down to £67.50 per 3 months.

To take advantage of this offer e-mail Eddie at emac@talktalk.net and quote the code DJB7654.

One system I have been trying to test in Quick on the Draw. It is proving profitable but the trouble is that there are so few bets. There were none during May and only a couple of qualifying races in June. This might be a good system but it is definitely one for those who are prepared to take a long term view.

This month I am going to paper test Paul Fowlie's new system Place to Lay and follow The Edge on the Betting School web site.

For those who would like more information about the systems I use in my portfolio:

Dodgy Favourites

Prize Lays e-mail emac@talktalk.net and quote DJB7654

Racing Systems Profits - a Free system given as a bonus when you join the Betting School. To get details and a free copy of the 30 page Insiders Report go to
www.free30pagereport.co.uk

Portfolio System

That's bout it for the moment. I did get an e-mail from one subscriber asking me when I was going to post a new free system up online. I will try and get one up later this week IF I can find one that is good enough.

Have some good racing
Dave

Have you ever asked yourself why you like horse race betting? Is it the rush of adrenalin as you watch your horse head towards the winning post in front of the field? Does that outweigh the feeling of dejection as it comes home last well behind the feel. The basic truth is that for what ever reason you gamble on horses it can be an emotional fair ground ride with plenty of ups and downs.

If you are just having a day at the races that is fine a bit of emotion adds to the day. Quite honestly if you did not feel something the whole process would be pretty boring and would add little to your day out.

Are you betting on the horses for a bit of excitement and fun or to make some money? How you should approach your betting is dependant upon your answer to that question. Providing you are out for a bit of light hearted fun be as emotional as you like. Select a horse because it has a pretty face or has the same name as your pet goldfish. It does not matter, as long as you do not bet more than you can comfortably afford to lose it can only add to a great day out. Who knows you could even go home with some winnings.

However, if you bet on horses to make money there is no room for emotion or sentiment. There are certain race horses that capture the public's imagination and jockeys who are household names and attract a large following. This can often lead to a horse being a false price because these sentiments. Certainly you may think it would be great fro that horsed or jockey to win but almost certainly backing the m would not represent value for money.

Horse racing involves some wonderful animals and marvellous people but whenever you place a bet as a serious gambler who is trying to win money you have to forget that. If you had a big win on a horse the last time it ran that is no reason to think it will win again. If there are genuine reasons why you think it is good enough to repeat the feat great but most horses do not win two races on the trot.

So if you want to make money on horse racing in the long term you are going to have to learn how to develop a detached approach. If you are a student of form or a follower of statistics you need to stay focuses and unemotional.
